Reddit commenter participating in r/science discussions about COVID-19 origins and lab-leak claims.
In all that time there has never been a mass human epidemic from either bacteriological or viral agents that we are aware of. Accidents and deaths there have been but these have been limited. My conclusion is that it is actually quite difficult to create an bio engineered epidemic. If it was easy it is likely we would have experienced and identified incidents and documented them several times. This makes me skeptical of any reports about deliberately or accidentally created epidemics. Usually these accusations are a mask for xenophobia.AI Verified (Mar 10, 2026)

Relevant: in a Reddit thread explicitly about whether SARS-CoV-2 was shaped in a laboratory, the author argues that accidental or deliberate engineered epidemics are unlikely and says such accusations are often xenophobic. That is directly on the lab-origin-vs-zoonosis issue and gives enough signal that the author's stance on the complete statement is determinable. The author says they are "skeptical of any reports about deliberately or accidentally created epidemics" and that such accusations are "usually ... a mask for xenophobia," which strongly implies opposition to the claim that COVID-19 came from a lab-related incident; their later reply discusses accidental introduction only as a possibility, not as their conclusion.
