Comment by Demis Hassabis

Nobel laureate, AI Researcher and CEO of DeepMind
Assuming we steward it safely and responsibly into the world, and obviously we’re trying to play our part in that, then we should be in a world of what I sometimes call radical abundance. [...] It should lead to incredible productivity and therefore prosperity for society. Of course, we’ve got to make sure it gets distributed fairly, but that’s more of a political question. And if it is, we should be in an amazing world of abundance for maybe the first time in human history, where things don’t have to be zero sum. And if that works, we should be travelling to the stars, really.

AI Verified I verified this as authentic. In the Guardian interview published on August 4, 2025, lines 207-208 attribute the passage to Demis Hassabis and match the submitted wording, with only a permissible omission where the quote uses [...]. I also found the same article under a slightly different Guardian slug ending in “and-10-times-faster,” so the text is real even if the provided URL variant may differ. AI Verified Verified via web search. The quote is from Demis Hassabis's August 2025 interview with The Guardian ("Demis Hassabis on our AI future: 'It'll be 10 times bigger than the Industrial Revolution — and maybe 10 times faster'"). Search results confirm verbatim the key phrases: "world of what I sometimes call radical abundance" and "incredible productivity and therefore prosperity for society." The vote "for" on "AGI will create abundance" directly aligns with Hassabis's central thesis in the interview.
