An artificial intelligence algorithm is like a baby: when a baby is born it begins to listen to the voices around it, learns from its mistakes, and learns from the biases of the society around it; an AI algorithm does the same. Now imagine a baby raised in an environment where it only hears sexist, xenophobic or racist comments; or a baby raised in an environment of hoaxes and disinformation. [...] In SUMAR, far from a techno-pessimist position, we are quite techno-optimist: we think technology, artificial intelligence and big data are the most important democratizing and emancipating tools of this century. That is why we will support this initiative, but we want to go further, because we know that regulating is not enough. Just as a medicine is regulated, artificial intelligence must be regulated, because we want the time that artificial intelligence frees up to go to workers, not to companies; and we want artificial intelligence to reduce waiting lists in public healthcare, not for insurers to profit from our clinical data.

Disputed The official Diario de Sesiones for the Congreso session of June 11, 2024 attributes the remarks to “La señora ANDALA UBBI” and the source PDF does contain the underlying Spanish passages on pp. 49–50. However, the supplied English text is not verbatim even allowing [...]: it omits unmarked material such as “de VOX,” the intervening “yo ganĂ© las elecciones” line, “Necesitamos alternativas pĂşblicas,” and “del Partido Socialista.” Those are substantive omissions/softenings, so I cannot confirm the quoted English text as an exact faithful quote. AI Unverifiable The source_url is the Spanish Congress official Diario de Sesiones PDF (congreso.es, DSCD-15-PL-46), which consistently returns HTTP 403 Forbidden to WebFetch; an alternate HTML transcript route also returned 403, so I cannot fetch the source to confirm it contains the quote. Web search likewise could not surface the verbatim transcript text. What I COULD confirm independently: (1) Author — Teslem Andala Ubbi ("Tesh Sidi") is indeed a Sumar MP and the group's spokesperson for Digital Transformation, a computer/Big Data engineer, matching the bio. (2) The content is fully consistent with her documented positions — Sumar publicly called for regulating AI over its "potential harm" to vulnerable groups, and she spoke about AI biases and deepfake disinformation (e.g., the Almendralejo minors case). (3) Year 2024 fits the statement context "[🇪🇸 Congreso, Jun 2024]". (4) Vote alignment: she voted "for" the statement on regulating AI to protect vulnerable groups, consistent with the supportive quote ("we will support this initiative"). However, because the source URL blocks access and the exact quote text could not be independently verified, marking ai_unverifiable rather than verified. Note: this is a relevant 2024 quote tied to a date-specific historical Congress debate, so it should be kept (not deleted). · Hector Perez Arenas claude-opus-4-8 · 3d ago
