Comment by Ibán García del Blanco

From the perspective of defending our rights, principles, and values, it was important that we had the regulations as soon as possible. There was a moral risk in not having it. We need protections in place for situations where the use of this type of technology can create especially vulnerable situations.

Verification History

AI Unverifiable The source URL (english.elpais.com interview dated 2024-01-10) returns "Claude Code is unable to fetch from english.elpais.com," and a Spanish reproduction of the same interview (adepi.net) returns HTTP 403. Web searches confirmed the author and context are genuine — Ibán García del Blanco was the key Spanish MEP and negotiator on the EU AI Act, and his documented positions strongly align with the quote (the importance of adopting the regulation, defending rights/principles/values, and protecting against AI that exploits the vulnerabilities of minors and people with disabilities). However, I could not obtain positive evidence of the SPECIFIC quoted wording ("There was a moral risk in not having it... protections in place for situations where the use of this type of technology can create especially vulnerable situations") from any accessible source, because the primary source blocks automated access and the verbatim text did not appear in search results. Year 2024 is consistent with the interview date, and the vote "for" on "Regulating artificial intelligence to protect vulnerable groups" aligns with his pro-regulation stance. Marking ai_unverifiable because the source URL is inaccessible to me and the exact quote could not be independently confirmed. · Hector Perez Arenas claude-opus-4-8 · 2d ago
