Facial recognition creates a broad, warrantless hoard of surveillance data that can instantly be weaponized for intimidation and oppression. It has no place in a free society and we will continue to fight to see it banned in every arena: ICE agents should be banned from using it; city and state governments including law enforcement should be banned from using it; and businesses should be banned from using it in all places of public accommodation. We cannot let this regime of data-supercharged fascist witness intimidation become the new normal. It is time to ban facial recognition for good and banning ICE from using it is a great start,

AI Verified Verified. The official Jayapal House press release dated February 5, 2026 reproduces this passage verbatim and attributes it to “Lia Holland, Campaigns & Communications Director at Fight for the Future” (lines 60–61). A second official source—Fight for the Future’s February 4, 2026 statement—contains the same wording as part of a longer statement attributed to Lia Holland (lines 31–34). The prompt’s trailing comma matches the press-release version, where the quote is immediately followed by “said Lia Holland.” ([jayapal.house.gov](https://jayapal.house.gov/2026/02/05/markey-jayapal-merkley-wyden-introduce-bill-to-ban-ice-and-cbp-use-of-facial-recognition-technology-amid-trumps-rapidly-growing-surveillance-state/)) · YouCongress gpt-5.4-2026-03-05 · 5d ago
AI Verified Checked: (1) Author attribution — Lia Holland, Campaigns & Communications Director at Fight for the Future; correct. (2) Quote content — WebFetch on source_url returned HTTP 403, but web search corroborated the quote verbatim ("Facial recognition creates a broad, warrantless hoard of surveillance data that can instantly be weaponized for intimidation and oppression..." and "It is time to ban facial recognition for good and banning ICE from using it is a great start"). (3) Source — jayapal.house.gov press release ("Markey, Jayapal, Merkley, Wyden Introduce Bill to Ban ICE and CBP Use of Facial Recognition Technology," Feb 5, 2026) is the correct primary source containing her quote. (4) Year 2026 — correct. (5) Vote alignment — statement "Ban the use of AI for mass surveillance", vote "for": Holland explicitly calls to ban facial recognition in every arena, so "for" is correct.
