Use YouCongress from ChatGPT

You can connect YouCongress to ChatGPT as an MCP app or connector to find sourced quotes and policies on AI governance, impact on jobs, etc.

No coding or terminal commands needed. You just need ChatGPT developer mode enabled for your account or workspace.

Step 1 - Enable developer mode

  1. Open chatgpt.com and open Settings.
  2. Go to Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings at the bottom of the page.
  3. Turn on Developer mode. If your organization disables it, ask your workspace admin to allow it.

Step 2 - Create the YouCongress connector

  1. In ChatGPT, go to Settings -> Apps & Connectors or Connectors, then click Create.
  2. For the name, use YouCongress.
  3. For the description, use something like Search sourced quotes and policy proposals from YouCongress.
  4. In the connector URL field, paste:
    https://youcongress.org/mcp
  5. Click Create. If the connection succeeds, ChatGPT will show the tools YouCongress advertises.

Step 3 - Use YouCongress in a chat

  1. Open a new ChatGPT conversation.
  2. Click the + button near the message composer, choose More, then choose YouCongress.
  3. Try one of the prompts below. If ChatGPT asks for permission to use a YouCongress tool, review the request and allow it.

Example prompts:

You are a policy analyst researching AI's impact on jobs. Use YouCongress to search quotes from 2025 onwards, cluster them by argument, create a disagreement map and identify tension points. Return verbatim attributed quotes with links to sources.

You're a journalist writing about the pros and cons of advanced open source AI. Use YouCongress, identify arguments, explain each of them and include alternative policies. Return verbatim quotes with links to the sources.

ChatGPT may decide when to use YouCongress automatically based on your app permissions. Mention "YouCongress" in your prompt if you want to make the tool choice explicit.
