This knowledge informs focus and allocation of resources for research and preparedness efforts for the inevitable epidemics and pandemics to come. Outbreak preparedness is a topic that requires a coordinated, evidence-based, global effort, that relies on long-term global partnerships. Diverting attention, effort and resources in response to the unsupported lab leak hypothesis harms the mission of pandemic preparedness.
