Comment by Sam Altman

I think it’s good to start studying [basic income] early. I’m fairly confident that at some point in the future, as technology continues to eliminate traditional jobs and massive new wealth gets created, we’re going to see some version of this at a national scale.

Disputed The attribution is correct: a January 27, 2016 Y Combinator post is authored by Sam Altman and contains this passage. But the submitted quote is not verbatim. The source says “I think it’s good to start studying this early,” not “start studying [basic income] early.” Because the wording was altered rather than omitted with [...], it does not meet a strict verbatim standard. AI Verified Verified via web search. The quote is from Sam Altman's January 27, 2016 blog post "Basic Income" on the Y Combinator blog (https://blog.ycombinator.com/basic-income). The original text uses "this" instead of "[basic income]" — the brackets are a standard editorial clarification, which is acceptable. The vote direction "for" on "Implement a universal basic income" correctly reflects Altman's supportive stance toward UBI. Source URL is correct.
