Let's open source nuclear weapons too to make them safer. The good guys (us) will always have bigger ones than the bad guys (them) so it should all be OK.

AI Verified The quote uses sarcasm to reject the idea that making a dangerous technology open-source makes it safer. By analogy, it clearly implies the author believes open-source AI would be more dangerous than keeping AI closed-source. · YouCongress gpt-5.4-2026-03-05 · 18d ago

AI Verified I could not directly render the X post at the provided URL, but I found multiple independent sources reproducing the exact wording and attributing it to Geoffrey Hinton (@geoffreyhinton) on October 31, 2023. DailyAI prints the full quote verbatim as an embedded X post, and a Benzinga reprint on Sahm Capital does the same; YouCongress also lists the identical text as "Verified" with the X status URL as source. That is strong evidence the quote is real, verbatim, and correctly attributed.
