Comment by Stephen Fry

To get the most from what AI has to offer mankind, there is simply no need to reach for the unknowable and highly risky goal of superintelligence, which is by far a frontier too far. By definition this would result in a power that we could neither understand nor control.

AI Verified The quote clearly opposes pursuing superintelligence at all, calling it an unnecessary, highly risky goal that humans could neither understand nor control. That directly implies opposition to mandating any body, including a CERN for AI, to build safe superintelligence. · YouCongress gpt-5.4-2026-03-05 · 18d ago

AI Verified Verified: the exact wording appears in an official Future of Life Institute press release, attributed to "actor Stephen Fry," and the source URL’s indexed snippet also shows the same quote under "Sir Stephen Fry." An official FLI AI page lists the "Statement on Superintelligence" as dated September 22, 2025, so the 2025 year is consistent.
