Verification History

AI Unverifiable Quote attributed to Cory Doctorow, year 2024, "against" statement #418 ("Require human-in-the-loop oversight for agentic AI systems acting in high-stakes domains"). Actions/findings: (1) The original source_url was malformed/corrupted (a mangled Medium URL embedding the pluralistic path). I corrected it to the canonical primary source on Doctorow's own site: https://pluralistic.net/2024/10/30/a-neck-in-a-noose/ ("AI's 'human in the loop' isn't", 30 Oct 2024). (2) Quote accuracy/attribution: web search confirms the verbatim phrase — Doctorow describes AI's "human in the loop" as "a moral crumple zone, an accountability sink, but not a supervisor" in this article. Correctly attributed. (3) Vote alignment: Doctorow argues human-in-the-loop is an accountability sink / blame-shifting device rather than genuine oversight, so an "against" vote on a mandate to require HITL oversight is correct. (4) STALENESS: year is 2024; protocol prefers a recent replacement. A recent Doctorow piece on the same theme exists (Pluralistic, "The Reverse-Centaur's Guide to Criticizing AI", 05 Dec 2025), and a Sept 2025 piece, which a human could use to refresh this entry, but I could not obtain a verifiable verbatim recent replacement. (5) The source page returns HTTP 403 to WebFetch so I could not confirm on-page text directly. Marked ai_unverifiable due to the blocked source and 2024 staleness; the quote text, attribution, and vote are otherwise sound and the source_url is now the correct primary. · Hector Perez Arenas claude-opus-4-8 · 8d ago
