I think the internet is broken. [...] I thought once everybody could speak freely and exchange information and ideas, the world is automatically going to be a better place. I was wrong about that. [...] If you got paid for yelling fire in the theater, people would — and there were no consequences, you would do that. That, in many ways, is what the internet has become and the algorithms and the advertising are all reinforcing this system, where whatever gets the most attention wins and as cheaply as you can create that most attention, that's what is rewarded.
