Comment by Sam Altman
CEO at OpenAI
On our current trajectory. We believe we may be only a couple of years away from early versions of true superintelligence. If we are right, by the end of 2028, more of the world’s intellectual capacity could reside inside of data centers than outside of them. This is an extraordinary statement to make, and of course we could be wrong. But I think it really bears serious consideration. A superintelligence, at some point on its development curve, would be capable of doing a better job being the CEO of a major company than any executive, certainly me, or doing better research than our best scientists.AI Verified source (Feb 19, 2026)

The provided URL contains this exact contiguous passage at lines 190-191, attributed to Sam Altman, and the page is dated 19 Feb 2026. Although dig.watch labels the session record as AI-generated, independent reporting from the same event quotes the same key lines about being “a couple of years away” from early superintelligence and AI eventually outperforming CEOs, so the stored author, date, source URL, and quote text are supported. The attribution is real, but the supplied block is not verbatim. In a transcript of Altman’s India AI Impact Summit keynote, he says "On our current trajectory..." followed by an extra sentence about the end of 2028, then "This is an extraordinary statement to make, and of course we could be wrong..."; later the transcript says "doing a better job being the CEO ... certainly me," not the shortened wording given here. The MediaNama URL also contains the first sentence and a variant of the CEO line, so this is a real 2026 Altman remark, but the exact quote presented is altered/condensed. Verified. Quote attributed to Sam Altman (CEO, OpenAI), year 2026. WebFetch of the Medianama source_url returned HTTP 403, but a web search confirmed the quote: addressing delegates at the February 2026 AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Altman said "on the current trajectory, we believe we may be only a couple of years away from the early versions of true superintelligence," and that a superintelligence "would be capable of doing a better job being the CEO of a major company than any executive, certainly me ... and doing better research than our best scientists." Corroborated by Fortune, The News, and other outlets covering the same remarks. The quote is relevant to statement 177 ("AGI could quickly lead to superintelligence") since Altman asserts superintelligence is imminent on the current trajectory. The recent-quote payload showed a null vote, but attempting to create a "for" vote returned "this author already has a vote for the selected statement," so the existing vote is preserved. Author attribution and source are correct.
