Comment by Nicolai Tangen
CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), the world's largest sovereign wealth fund, managing Norway's Government Pension Fund Global (~$2 trillion)
I'm surprised by people who basically use it only to take out costs. Instead, why don't you use it to become more productive and gain market share? You are going to make adoption faster and easier for yourself - and you are going to make it easier for society so we don't get this total backlash against something that is really, really positive. [...] We're not using this to lay off people. We're using it to make societies more productive, more efficient, and to lift everybody up in a more social democratic manner.

AI Unverifiable
Quote attributed to Nicolai Tangen (CEO of NBIM): comments urging companies to use AI to become more productive and gain market share rather than just cut costs, ending "We're not using this to lay off people. We're using it to make societies more productive, more efficient, and to lift everybody up in a more social democratic manner." Year 2026 (April 28, 2026 remarks). Vote "for" on statement "The economic gains from frontier AI should be shared with every person on Earth" is a reasonable alignment — Tangen's emphasis on lifting everybody up in a social democratic manner supports broad sharing of AI gains. The source_url (rte.ie) returned HTTP 403 to WebFetch. However, web search returned the quote essentially verbatim and confirmed attribution, corroborated by Reuters-syndicated coverage across many outlets. Marking ai_unverifiable only because the source URL blocks automated fetching; corroboration is strong.
