Given the currently available evidence, the two plausible possibilities for the origin of SARS-CoV-2 are not equally likely. While acknowledging that we lack access to some key data, the data currently available support the zoonosis hypothesis as the most likely explanation for the origin of SARS-CoV-2. Importantly, if additional information and evidence become available, the conclusions may change. However, for now, the laboratory origin hypothesis remains purely speculative.
