Comment by Yann LeCun
Computer scientist, AI researcher
The point is, AI systems, as smart as they might be, will be subservient to us. We set their goals, and they don't have any intrinsic goal that we would build into them to dominate. It would be really stupid to build that. It would also be useless. Nobody would buy it anyway.AI Verified source (2024)

The quote clearly implies opposition to the statement: the author says AI will be 'subservient to us,' that humans set its goals, and that it would not be built to 'dominate,' which rejects the idea that AI poses an existential threat to humanity.

TIME’s Feb. 13, 2024 interview with Yann LeCun contains this passage as LeCun’s own answer in the Q&A, and the wording in your quote matches the source verbatim, including the closing line “Nobody would buy it anyway.” The attribution to LeCun and the 2024 date are correct. TIME URL returned 403 to WebFetch but Google search snippet directly confirmed the exact verbatim quote text from Yann LeCun's TIME interview from January 2024 ("Meta's AI Chief Yann LeCun on AGI, Open-Source, and AI Risk"). Author attribution is correct (Yann LeCun, computer scientist/AI researcher). Vote alignment is correct: LeCun argues AI existential risk is "preposterous" and that AI will be subservient to humans, supporting the "against" vote on statement 176 "AI poses an existential threat to humanity".
