We should uphold a people-centered approach and the principle of AI for good, support the U.N. as the main channel, prevent the widening of the digital divide, and set clear guardrails for the military use and governance of AI.

AI Verified The official English-language Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC page titled "Keynote Speech by H.E. Wang Yi at the Meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance" contains the exact sentence quoted: "We should uphold a people-centered approach and the principle of AI for good, support the U.N. as the main channel, prevent the widening of the digital divide, and set clear guardrails for the military use and governance of AI." The same page identifies the speech as Wang Yi’s remarks delivered in New York on May 28, 2026, so the quote is verbatim and correctly attributed. AI Unverifiable Quote attributed to Wang Yi (2026) on supporting a people-centered approach, AI for good, the UN as main channel, preventing the digital divide, and guardrails for military use/governance of AI. The source_url (fmprc.gov.cn official MOFA readout) is the correct primary source, but WebFetch returns HTTP 403, as do mirror sites (globalsecurity.org, geopolitechs.org) — the pages are blocked to AI fetching. I could not directly read the source page. That said, a web search independently corroborated the quote: it reproduced the text near-verbatim and confirmed the context (Wang Yi's keynote at the Meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance, UN HQ New York, ~May 28 2026). The vote 'for' on statement #360 ("Establish a UN-led body to oversee compute-intensive AI") aligns with the quote's support for the UN as the main channel for AI governance. Marking ai_unverifiable solely because the source page itself could not be fetched; corroborating evidence is strong. · Hector Perez Arenas claude-opus-4-8 · 4mo ago
