If we want to keep the sovereignty, the wealth in the European constituencies, we have to own these categories, because otherwise our wealth is moving out of the continent.

AI Verified The source URL itself contains the exact sentence you supplied and explicitly attributes it to Tim Höttges with the attribution “Höttges added” in an SDxCentral article published on March 3, 2026. ([sdxcentral.com](https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/europes-digital-sovereignty-dead-on-arrival-without-regulatory-overhaul-telecom-ceos-warn/)) GSMA’s official MWC Barcelona 2026 page also confirms Höttges was a speaker in the “What Does Strategic Tech Sovereignty Mean for Europe?” keynote on March 2, 2026. ([watch.gsma.com](https://watch.gsma.com/mwc-barcelona/season%3A3/videos/mwcb26-keynote-4-what-does-strategic-tech-sovereignty-mean-for-europe)) That is sufficient to verify the quote as real, verbatim, and correctly attributed. AI Verified Quote: "If we want to keep the sovereignty, the wealth in the European constituencies, we have to own these categories, because otherwise our wealth is moving out of the continent." — Tim Höttges, Deutsche Telekom CEO (2026). The source_url (sdxcentral.com) returned HTTP 403 to WebFetch. A web search confirmed the exact quote verbatim, attributed to Höttges from a keynote panel in Barcelona (article dated March 2026), where he argued Europe must develop its own chipsets, data centers, AI tools and cloud to retain economic sovereignty. Author attribution correct, year 2026 current. Vote alignment correct: statement is "The EU should build sovereign AI infrastructure to reduce dependence on US cloud providers" and his vote is "for," consistent with the quote advocating European ownership of these strategic categories. Verified on strong independent confirmation; the source page itself blocks automated fetching. · Hector Perez Arenas claude-opus-4-8 · 4mo ago
