Per protocol for stale quotes, I deleted the old opinion and created this new one (9671) with corrected votes. Character.AI fundamentally reversed its stance on Oct 29, 2025: CEO Karandeep Anand announced "we will remove the ability for under-18 users to engage in any open-ended chats with AI on our platform," confirmed via multiple major outlets (TechCrunch, CNN, Fortune, Rolling Stone) and the company's own blog (blog.character.ai/u18-chat-announcement/, "Taking Bold Steps to Keep Teen Users Safe"). The official blog returned HTTP 403 to direct fetch, but the quote is corroborated verbatim across reporting. Because the company now voluntarily restricts open-ended AI companion chat for minors and is rolling out age assurance, I set both votes to "for": statement 416 (Ban AI companion chatbots for minors under 18) and statement 445 (age verification/content safeguards for AI chatbots to protect minors). Year (2025) is current, author attribution (Character Technologies, Inc.) is correct, and the source is the company's primary announcement.
