Ban Ki-moon

As someone who has witnessed the potential for escalation and the catastrophic consequences of armed conflict, I firmly believe that autonomous lethal weapons should be banned. These weapons, capable of making life-and-death decisions without human intervention, pose a grave risk to global safety and ethical standards in warfare.

I believe a centralized hub for AI research, similar to CERN, can foster global collaboration and ensure the ethical development of artificial intelligence. By bringing together diverse experts and resources under one roof, we can effectively address global challenges such as climate change, health crises, and sustainable development, while also setting shared standards for AI safety and fairness.

As a former UN Secretary-General, I believe that AI systems with significant capabilities must have interpretable decision-making processes. Transparency is crucial to ensure accountability, prevent misuse, and maintain public trust. By understanding how these systems make decisions, we can safeguard against biases and unintended consequences.
