Comment by Jonathan Stoye

Virologist and senior group leader at the Francis Crick Institute studying retrovirus-host interactions
As far as I can make out, no new evidence has been released to support the FBI statement. In the absence of any such information I am not inclined to change my view that the available evidence supports a natural origin for the COVID pandemic. Finger-pointing without providing evidence has been very unhelpful, greatly complicating international efforts to provide a definitive description of the events leading to the first human infections.

AI Verified Relevant: in the source context, Jonathan Stoye is responding to claims that SARS-CoV-2 most likely came from a lab and says he remains of the view that the available evidence supports a natural origin. That is directly about the complete statement and makes his stance on lab-origin versus zoonotic spillover clearly determinable. AI Verified He is against the statement: he says there is no new evidence for the FBI lab-origin claim and that the available evidence supports a natural origin for COVID, which implies opposition to a lab-related origin.
