Where an AI system causes harm, the consequences are borne not by the board that authorised deployment, the vendor that supplied the system, or the shareholder that provided the capital, but by third parties-customers, children, patients, autistic learners, individuals in financial difficulty-who had no role in the investment decision and no contractual relationship with any party in the conventional principal-agent chain.
