The economic counterargument is pretty simple; AI will be a very close substitute for human labor. Automating lots of knowledge work will increase unemployment in the short-to-medium-term, especially if this automation happens much faster than labor reallocation, which seems likely. In the long-term, there is no reason why AI can't outcompete humans on most economically valuable tasks across most sectors, meaning unemployment will stay high.
