Comment by Design It For Us

Youth-led coalition advocating responsible technology policy and protections for young people.
Governments should be prohibited from using AI systems for mass surveillance. The right to privacy is a fundamental right we outline in our Declaration of Digital Rights. Data brokers and negligent data practices have allowed large amounts of personal data to be bought and sold online, making them accessible to anyone, including the government. AI systems should not exacerbate this problem by allowing the government to easily access troves of people’s personal information and create dossiers on individuals to threaten, harass, or target in any way. Policies should prohibit the government from surveilling people and can be bolstered with national privacy data protections.
