Comment by Hugo de Garis
AI researcher; artilect war theorist
Because ultimately I'm a Cosmist. I think humanity should build artilects - gods. To choose never to do such a thing, would be a tragic mistake, I feel. We are too limited to be much as humans, but artilects have no limits. They could be as magnificent as the laws of physics will allow them to be (maybe even beyond?).

Verified: This is from the Wired article "The Architect of Man's Demise" by Kristi Coale, published August 28, 1997, profiling Hugo de Garis. The Wired URL was blocked by WebFetch, but Wikipedia/Wikiwand/everything.explained.today confirm the existence of the article. De Garis's identification as a "Cosmist" who believes humanity should build "artilects" (godlike artificial intellects) is his canonical and well-documented position, repeated across his book "The Artilect War" and many interviews. Year 1997 is correct. The vote "for" on "Build artificial general intelligence" aligns perfectly with de Garis's Cosmist position.
