I think the consensus was we need something. [...] Democracies should focus their efforts on making sure the G7 doesn’t just produce the most capable AI, but also the second most capable AI.

Each country cannot depend on a single other country. They need to spread their bets and make sure that they're resilient in the event that one of those gets switched off.
