Passing legislation to ensure chatbots are not designed with the same perverse incentives to manipulate people for profit and establishing clear liability standards for injuries caused by products these corporations are rushing to market are essential steps toward ensuring safer and human-centric AI and helping mitigate the power that big tech firms have to render human emotions into data for profit.
