The governance of artificial intelligence cannot be addressed by any single nation alone. The systems being developed today at rapid pace are shaping access to information, influencing economic opportunity, and affecting fundamental rights.

The deployment of AI online content moderation without human oversight can amplify disinformation, undermining the integrity of the information landscape, and this disproportionately affects women and girls.

In my own Department, we are liaising with the European Commission and member states to advocate for adding the use of AI systems for the generation of such images to the list of prohibited AI practices under the EU AI Act.
