The argument goes something like this: technology is moving too fast, displacement is inevitable, and the best we can hope for is a generous safety net, such as Universal Basic Income (UBI), to catch the losers. Anton Korinek and Joseph Stiglitz, in a major new NBER working paper, want to blow that fatalism apart.
