Artificial general intelligence is a brilliant coworker; artificial superintelligence is an alien. AGI thinks ten times faster than you, and can be a wonderful source of scientific and human progress; ASI is to humans what humans are to ants, and is terrifying. Deliberately pacing gives humanity additional precious time to prepare for superintelligence.
