Artificial intelligence poses a spectrum of risks ranging from present-day discrimination and privacy violations to unprecedented catastrophic threats including loss of human control over advanced systems, weaponization of biological and cyber capabilities, and irreversible concentration of power. Despite this, fewer than 10 000 people work full-time on reducing these risks globally, and the industry's "core structural weakness" remains the complete absence of credible plans for controlling "superintelligent" AI systems. The control points being implemented are the easy ones. The gap between capabilities and governance is growing because the competitive framework encourages the exponential advancement of capabilities at all costs, while governance advances linearly. i.e., the problem is that the things most needed are the things our current incentive structures are worst at producing. The next five years are the critical window.... Solving the risks is fundamentally a coordination problem, not a knowledge problem. Every individual has an impact. Every individual has a responsibility to uphold the right development and use of these technologies; and, to hold this accountable beyond ego. *Typical Disclaimer: Note that I do not speak for the company.
