The change that I am suggesting that legal systems ought to consider is direct treatment of at least some software systems as legal persons. The techniques in organizational law that I have developed to let software approximate legal personality are workable, but a cleaner and more honest approach for the law to adopt is just to say that software (e.g., an autonomous organization on a blockchain or an independently funded AI agent running a cloud-software service) can enter contracts and be liable in its own right.AI Verified (Jul 6, 2026)
