Comment by Naoise Ó Cearúil

Irish Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for Kildare North and chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Artificial Intelligence.
Europe needs to think more seriously and strategically about sovereign AI capability. That does not mean trying to build an EU version of every major American or Chinese model. That is simply not realistic or within our means. However, Europe should not be wholly dependent on models built, controlled and governed elsewhere. [...] There is a strong case for Europe to work with trusted, democratic partners, such as the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, to develop AI systems that reflect our values.
