Comment by Paul Buchheit
Lead developer of Gmail, founder of FriendFeed. and investor in Y Combinator
I don't have to work. I choose to work. And I believe that everyone deserves the same freedom I have. If done right, it's also economically superior, meaning that we will all have more wealth. We often talk about how brilliant or visionary Steve Jobs was, but there are probably millions of people just as brilliant as he was. The difference is that they likely didn't grow up with great parents, amazing teachers, and an environment where innovation was the norm. Also they didn't live down the street from Steve Wozniak. Economically, we don't need more jobs. We need more Steve Jobs. When we set everyone free, we enable the outliers everywhere. The result will be an unprecedented boom in human creativity and ingenuity.

Quote attributed to Paul Buchheit (Gmail creator, Y Combinator partner) from his blog post "The Technology" (July 2014). Web searches confirm this quote and the "We don't need more jobs. We need more Steve Jobs" passage are from his blog at paulbuchheit.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-technology.html. The quote clearly advocates for UBI ("everyone deserves the same freedom I have", "When we set everyone free"), aligning with the "for" vote on the "Implement a universal basic income" statement. Author attribution and vote direction check out. However, WebFetch on the source_url returns HTTP 403 (blogspot blocks AI fetchers), and web.archive.org is also inaccessible, so I cannot directly confirm the exact wording on the page. Marking as ai_unverifiable per instructions for blocked URLs. Year 2014 is older than 2025/2026 but no more recent equivalent quote from Buchheit on UBI was found via search.
