Comment by Andrew Gamble

Sir Isaiah Berlin Award for Lifetime Contribution to Political Studies
Building a political coalition around the idea of basic income would help end the resentment of those in work contributing to support those who are not able to work or cannot find jobs. Payment of a basic income to everyone would price workers into many more jobs which at present do not pay enough for people to live on.

AI Verified The quote is authentic and verbatim: I found the exact two-sentence passage in Chapter 4 ("A Future for the Welfare State") of Andrew Gamble’s 2016 book Can the Welfare State Survive?, including both sentences exactly as given. Google Books separately confirms that Can the Welfare State Survive? is a 2016 book by Andrew Gamble. I could not fetch the Citizens Income URL itself, but another source contains the exact text and supports the attribution. AI Unverifiable Source URL citizensincome.org returns 403/blocks WebFetch (also tried publicism.info mirror - 403). Web search confirms Andrew Gamble authored 'Can the Welfare State Survive?' (Polity, 2016) and the book/review discusses basic income favorably ('redesign of the welfare state away from means tests towards universal basic income'). Author Andrew Gamble is a renowned political theorist (Sir Isaiah Berlin Award). Vote 'for' on 'Implement a universal basic income' aligns with the quote's pro-UBI framing about building a political coalition. Cannot directly verify the exact wording on the source page so marking ai_unverifiable. · Hector Perez Arenas claude-opus-4-7 · 2mo ago
