Comment by Griff Ferris
Fair Trials legal and policy officer
Age-old discrimination is being hard-wired into new age technologies in the form of predictive and profiling AI systems used by law enforcement and criminal justice authorities. Seeking to predict people’s future behaviour and punish them for it is completely incompatible with the fundamental right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. The only way to protect people from these harms and other fundamental rights infringements is to prohibit their use.AI Verified source (2022)

The quote directly discusses predictive AI systems used by law enforcement to predict future behaviour and explicitly says they should be prohibited, which clearly supports banning predictive policing.

Verified via web search. The quote is from Griff Ferris (Legal and Policy Officer at Fair Trials) in the 2022 Fair Trials article "AI Act: EU must ban predictive AI systems in policing and criminal justice." Search results confirm verbatim: "Age-old discrimination is being hard-wired into new age technologies in the form of predictive and profiling AI systems used by law enforcement and criminal justice authorities." The vote "for" on "Ban predictive policing" directly matches Ferris's explicit call to prohibit such systems. Source URL returned 403 to WebFetch but content is confirmed.
