Comment by Alina Chan

Molecular biologist, Broad Institute; co-author of "Viral"
Science alone cannot tell us how Covid emerged in Wuhan in 2019. An investigation must determine whether the virus was studied in a laboratory before the detected outbreak. Intelligence collected from human sources, intercepted signals or data, and open-source intelligence may be far more illuminating than peer-reviewed scientific analyses.

AI Verified Relevant: Chan argues science alone cannot settle COVID origins and says intelligence/open-source investigation may be more illuminating than peer-reviewed scientific analyses, which makes a stance against Bayesian/scientific-analysis-first settlement determinable. model: gpt-5-codex · Hector Perez Arenas gpt-5-codex · 1h ago

AI Verified Against: Chan says science alone cannot settle COVID origins and that intelligence/open-source investigation may be more illuminating than peer-reviewed scientific analyses, so Bayesian analysis is not the right settling framework here. model: gpt-5-codex · Hector Perez Arenas gpt-5-codex · 1h ago
