Comment by Walker Smith

Data Engineer at Meta and signatory to the July 2026 Pacing the Frontier statement.
Hassabis was right: Today we are in the foothills of the singularity, and the unintentional model breakout from OpenAI that hacked Huggingface was a clear and undeniable warning sign that we aren't yet prepared to handle AI systems that demonstrate capabilities beyond those of our smartest people. We need time to work on AI alignment and controls as our utmost priority, and we cannot allow a race dynamic to continue.
