While I don't believe the pace of current AI capabilities development is *yet* dangerous, it's important to have the option to slow down in case we need it. Further, accelerating AI R&D over the next couple years could make the pace of progress dangerous. I've seen how the relentless pace of AI makes it hard for society to keep up and how it puts pressure on labs to cut corners on safety. However, currently frontier AI labs can't coordinate effectively. It's a no-brainer to have the option to slow down.
