Whether or not automated AI research accelerates as sharply as some expect, the option requested here is valuable. How fast and how widely capability spreads should be a deliberate choice, made on evidence, rather than a side effect of competitive pressure. Regulators and R&D orgs should build the tools to make that choice at the frontier-wide level before we need them.
