Comment by Gary Turco

Connecticut state representative and vice chair of the General Law Committee.
Our kids are at risk, and it has led to many being hurt mentally and even physically by the engineered design of most social media and artificial intelligence platforms that put profits over the safety of their users. I’m proud that Connecticut is stepping up with the passage of this new comprehensive law to increase regulation and improve transparency to protect residents, especially children, while at the same time supporting resources to help promote the responsible development and a prepared workforce for emerging technologies.

AI Verified The quote is about regulating AI platforms to protect children, and the cited source context is a youth online safety law. That makes support for a requirement like age verification and chatbot safeguards substantially more likely, even though the quote does not name those measures verbatim. · YouCongress gpt-5.4-mini-2026-03-17 · 34min ago

AI Verified for. The quote explicitly supports a "new comprehensive law" to "increase regulation" and "protect residents, especially children," and the source says the bill safeguards children from the dangers of unregulated AI chatbots and requires chatbot operators to detect self-harm and respond with resources. That strongly supports the statement’s age-verification/content-safeguard approach.
