If you think (for one reason or another) facts about the consciousness and moral standing of individuals track functional properties but do not know which ones, we should be open to near-future AI systems (equipped with persistent memory, sensorimotor capabilities, editable belief structures, and long-term planning) having both consciousness and moral standing.
