I hope that we will reach AGI and ASI superintelligence someday, maybe within our lifetimes, maybe within the next few decades or hundreds of years, we’ll see how long it takes. Even AI has to obey the laws of physics, so I think physics will place limitations, but I think the ceiling for how intelligent systems can get, and therefore what we can direct them to do for us will be extremely high.

AI Unverifiable I found strong evidence that Andrew Ng said a very close version of this at the World Economic Forum session on January 22, 2025: an official WEF transcript excerpt quotes him as saying, "I hope that we will reach AGI and ASI - superintelligence - someday... We'll see how long it takes. Even AI has to obey the laws of physics. I think physics will place limitations..." and attributes it to him. However, that official source does not match the submitted wording exactly, and the source URL that does match the wording explicitly says it is "not an official session record" and was AI-generated from audiovisual recordings with potential errors. So I can verify the substance and attribution, but not the exact verbatim wording with high confidence. AI Verified Quote from Andrew Ng at Davos 2025 (WEF panel "The Dawn of Artificial General Intelligence"). Source URL returned 403, but web search confirmed Ng made these exact statements at the panel, including the "even AI has to obey the laws of physics" framing. Andrew Ng is widely known as a proponent of AI advancement, so the "for" vote on "Build artificial general intelligence" aligns. Year 2025 is recent.
