Humanity is not sufficiently prepared for the impacts of advanced AI in psychological, social, environmental, labour market, and military domains. With an inflection point in recursive AI self-improvement forecasted to be just around the corner, leaders of governments and frontier AI labs must collectively agree on mechanisms for pacing frontier AI development now. This would be a valuable first step in shifting the dynamics of AI development away from destructive short-term competition towards prioritising the collective future of humanity. We must not wait for catastrophic situations to start arising before agreeing on how to collectively respond.AI Verified (Jul 2026)
