Like, right, right now, if I’m in a really good mood, I take everything blissfully and calmly. If I’m in a bad mood and someone points out something I did that was wrong or stupid, like there’s some anger that rises up inside me, I’m like, “f*** you. Why are you saying that?” I mean, I just tamp that down and let that like flow pass before it takes of me because I’m 56 years old, I’m not five years old, right? But, but we all, we all have that, right? I mean, we evolve with that. You don’t have to program that into the AI, right? We, we should not do so. Now we could, if you want to build military robots and if you’re building like a corporate sales AI, you may build into it that his motivation is “haha I figured out how to extract all this guy’s money by selling him crap he doesn’t need.” I mean, you could build AI with that motivation, but we don’t have to, we could build an AGI with a motivational system to like do, do what the average person would think is the most beneficial, loving, and compassionate thing in this situation.AI Verified source (2023)

The quote clearly implies optimism that alignment is possible: the author says "we could build an AGI with a motivational system" to do what is "beneficial, loving, and compassionate." That is an implicit supportive stance that AI alignment is solvable.

The quote says "we could build an AGI with a motivational system" to do "the most beneficial, loving, and compassionate thing," but it does not clearly state that AI alignment as a whole is solvable.

AI Unverifiable
Quote attributed to Ben Goertzel (SingularityNET CEO) from SuperDataScience podcast SDS 697 "The (Short) Path to Artificial General Intelligence". WebFetch on the SDS source URL returned HTTP 403. Web search confirms the episode exists at that URL with Goertzel as guest. Year was null; Goertzel says "I'm 56 years old" in the quote, and he was born December 1966, putting this at 2022/2023 recording. I set year to 2023 (also consistent with this being a mid-2023 episode in SDS's high-frequency numbering). Vote "for" "Build artificial general intelligence" perfectly aligns with Goertzel's well-known pro-AGI advocacy and his statement here that "we could build an AGI with a motivational system to... do the most beneficial, loving, and compassionate thing." Marking ai_unverifiable due to source URL blocking.
