Comment by Holly Elmore

Founder and Executive Director of PauseAI US; evolutionary biologist and AI moratorium advocate
We need to Pause frontier AI development if we're ever going to have time and latitude to even see if superintelligence could be safe and respect human consent. And if we find out it can't be, then we need to keep superintelligence paused forever.

AI Verified The quote clearly supports pausing advanced/frontier AI development in order to determine whether superintelligence can be safe, and even calls for an indefinite pause if it cannot be made safe. That implies support for banning superintelligence development at least until safety is established, which covers the statement’s core policy direction. · YouCongress gpt-5.4-2026-03-05 · 18d ago

AI Unverifiable The quote clearly supports a "Pause" in frontier AI/superintelligence development for safety reasons, but it does not specifically say "until safety consensus is reached"; it says to pause "to even see if superintelligence could be safe" and possibly "paused forever" if it can't. · YouCongress gpt-5.4-2026-03-05 · 18d ago

AI Verified Quote confirmed via web search of Holly Elmore's "Stop the AI Race" speech on her Substack (hollyelmore.substack.com, the source URL — her own writing, a primary source). The page returned HTTP 403 to direct fetch, but the passage "Pause frontier AI development if we're ever going to have time and latitude to even see if superintelligence could be safe and respect human consent. And if we find out it can't be, then we need to keep superintelligence paused forever" was corroborated verbatim. Author attribution correct (Holly Elmore, Founder/Executive Director of PauseAI US, AI moratorium advocate). Year 2026 correct. Vote "for" aligns perfectly with statement "Ban superintelligence development until safety consensus is reached" — Elmore explicitly advocates pausing frontier AI/superintelligence development until it can be shown safe. · Hector Perez Arenas claude-opus-4-7 · 1mo ago
