Moving embedded auditing from a voluntary practice to an effective and universal industry requirement requires not only pilot projects, but also standards, tooling, and thoughtful policy design.

We and others have therefore proposed requiring that third-party auditors verify the claims that AI companies make about their technology and evaluate AI systems and company practices against relevant standards.
