As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more human-like in conversation and more autonomous in operation, the question of machine consciousness is gaining practical relevance. [...] Although the possibility should not be dismissed entirely, consciousness remains a poorly understood concept and labelling it with scientific certainty would be premature.
