We share the Government’s belief that workers should be at the centre of Australia’s AI transformation – and that AI itself should be a net-creator of jobs.

It sets out a confident direction for how we must calibrate national policy to ensure the benefits of this transformational technology are shared widely and equitably – an ambition Microsoft strongly supports.

Microsoft has officially launched Behind The Chat: A Human Guide to Safe AI Conversations, a new set of scenario-based digital safety resources designed to help teens build healthy and intentional habits when engaging with AI companions and chatbots.

Governments and industry should work together to build interoperable international foundations for AI security, including risk evaluation, coordinated vulnerability disclosure, and information sharing.

Technical safety benchmarks remain important, but they are insufficient without rigorous, real-world testing.

Provide reliable, system-level mechanisms to pause or stop agents safely and immediately.

Microsoft also believes that American AI should not be used to conduct domestic mass surveillance or start a war without human control.

We prohibit the use of our technology for mass surveillance of civilian populations, require compliance with law and contract, and use internal review mechanisms to assess and address higher-risk scenarios.
