Should a CERN for AI have a central hub in one location?
European Commission agrees and says:
With Europe being outspent by Asia and North America when it comes to AI research, the European Commission has warned that the continent “cannot afford to maintain the current fragmented landscape” in which no research centre has “the scale necessary to compete with the leading institutes globally”. To remedy that, Brussels wants Europe to have a “lighthouse centre of research, innovation and expertise” that will become a “world reference of excellence in AI” that hosts “the best talents in the field”. Should developers have the right to make software that connects with large platforms (like Facebook or iOS) without the platform’s permission?
European Commission agrees and says:
Under Article 6(7) of the DMA, Apple must provide developers and businesses with free and effective interoperability with hardware and software features controlled by its operating systems iOS and iPadOS. The objective of Article 6(7) DMA is that devices, apps and products from third parties can be used on an iPhone as seamlessly as Apple’s own products. The specification decisions adopted today support Apple in achieving this objective, by detailing how to securely allow third parties to use certain features that are so far only available to Apple devices.
